One of the Oldest Animal Shelters in Europe
AnimalZone visits one of the oldest animal rescues in Europe, Zurcher Tierschutz located in Zurich, Switzerland. Rommy Los, director of the organization, shows us some fascinating aspects of the shelter which addresses the welfare of both the animals rescued as well as the wildlife in the area. The recent construction of a new building uses a special mesh which is embedded into the large glass windows. The mesh reduces the reflective quality of the glass and makes the windows appear to birds as an obstacle thereby keeping birds from flying into the windows. The resident cats have a climbing room created from wood which allows them to have their own elevated “nest” as well as the possibility to climb up to the building’s roof and exit onto a spacious outdoor rooftop enclosure
